This project investigates the myths, legends, shocking facts, outrageous lies, and other stories told about the University of Illinois. The author seeks to answer the following questions: Are there ghost stories that maintain a firm grip on campus folklore? What are some of the myths of the university? What is the allure of such tales? Based on archival research, this study concludes that those most well-known myths tend to be the least believable, most easily dispelled, and oldest legends accompanying the university’s rich history.
The university offers an extraordinary opportunity to study and document student communities, life, and culture. This collection includes research on the activities, clubs, and durable social networks that comprise sometimes the greater portion of the university experience for students.
