The purpose of the study was to measure job satisfaction of IT professionals in the context of their supervisors’ skill levels. A sample of IT professionals were surveyed as the primary population, and recruits from library email distribution lists served as a control group. Data was gathered using a survey that measured respondents’ perceptions of their manager’s technical skill, problem solving skill, and leadership skill. This was done in the context of job satisfaction based on Herzberg’s motivators and hygiene factors. Intent to leave was measured as an antecedent to voluntary turnover. A Respect for Supervisor model was analyzed with job satisfaction as a dependent variable to Herzberg factors and skill levels, and intent to leave as a dependent variable to job satisfaction. Data showed significant relationships between hygiene factors, motivators, and leadership skill with job satisfaction and job satisfaction and intent to leave.
