Abstract
This research project explores the development of a newly designed Humanities course titled "Intersections of Manga and Anime: Tradition, Diversity, and Global Influence.” The course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of manga and anime through the lens of Japanese history, culture, and DEI. The project includes a course description, a list of learning outcomes, a tentative weekly schedule, and a comprehensive list of readings and videos that will be embedded in the course. Goals of the course include providing an
entryway to the field of Asian/Japan Studies, increasing interest in our Global Studies and Asian Studies concentrations, and increasing enrollment in our Japanese language classes. Portions of the course content will align with the anti-racist, equity-centered mission of our institution in a meaningful and intentional way.
