Abstract
This research interrogates choreography through a queer feminist lens. It focuses on “classical” and “formal” works from the ballet and modern dance traditions, using specific examples from the repertoire of Merce Cunningham as well as the author’s own work. This work argues the omnipresence of desire in the audience-performer relationship even in non-narrative or abstract dance, referencing gender and performance theory as frameworks.
