Abstract
In my research, I use storytelling to create and construct my Black, queer life. I build this
research from the intersections of radical women of color feminisms, Black Queer Studies, and Black gay/queer poetry. I take inspiration from the multimodal methods of Ntozake Shange’s
choreopoem For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf (1975)
and Marlon Riggs’ groundbreaking work Tongues Untied (1989) and use their examples to combine improvisatory movement, sonic scores, and written and spoken text into explorations of
deeper love, glorious messes, and liberatory and celebratory spaces. These considerations help me further excavate how lived archives might contribute to creating dances that are felt and
sensed—undergirded by embodied storytelling, autoethnographic research methodologies, and affectively led choreographies.
