Abstract
String:
Lori Laitman (b. 1955) remains one of leading composers in American art song literature. This project is a comprehensive study of two Holocaust-themed song cycles by Laitman. It includes Vedem Songs (2010), set to children’s poems from Vedem magazine, and In Sleep the
World Is Yours (2013), set to poems by Selma Meerbaum-Eisinger. Among various arrangements, this project examines Vedem Songs for Mezzo-soprano/Clarinet/Piano and In Sleep the World Is Yours for Soprano/Oboe/Piano. This project provides background information on the composer, poets, and each composition with musical analysis and a performance guide from the perspective
of a singer.
