Abstract
The new technologies and products created by technology convergence have the potential to disrupt existing industries, so it is essential to measure technology convergence to detect the characteristics of technology convergence and the development pattern of technological innovation. Most existing studies focus on a particular development stage of technology convergence and lack comprehensive identification of multiple dimensions. In this study, we propose a framework to measure the degree of technological convergence from the perspectives of knowledge integration, technology fusion, and industry agglomeration of technology convergence, and take the field of artificial intelligence and its subfield technologies as an example to explore the cross-fertilization dynamics and characteristics between technologies at different levels of development based on the scientific publication and patent data. The three-dimensional measurement framework proposed in this study can better compensate for the shortage of a single perspective and thus provide new ideas and methods for the current technology convergence measurement research.
