Abstract
National libraries can be considered the home of a nation’s memories, knowledge, languages, and culture. They are tasked with both collecting and preserving a nation's history, as well as making that history available to present and future populations. However, this raises the question of how national libraries can balance preservation and access. It is increasingly common for libraries to turn to digitization in order to share access. This paper compares the digitization projects of two European libraries through the lens of cultural heritage goals.
