Abstract
HUM103 is a humanities course that has been restructured to strategically integrate Chinese,
Japanese, and Korean cultures into its curriculum throughout the semester to deepen students’
understanding of course content. This revision included a review of textbooks and relevant
literature, covering language, literature, Buddhism, and Korean pop culture. The revision
promotes comparative studies, reflection, and cross-cultural comprehension. By incorporating
updated materials and utilizing a more structured approach, the instructor aims to enrich the
learning journey, nurturing students' nuanced grasp of East Asian cultures. The revised
syllabus calendar included here became the cornerstone of course restructuring, enabling a
more conducive sequence for comparison and reflection.
This work was done during the International Studies Research Lab (ISRL) 2023. The researcher
utilized ISRL resources by borrowing books, attending zoom meetings, accessing web sources,
and reviewing peers' work. The web sources shared by ISRL, particularly the links under
Canvas's modules tab, were invaluable. Sources on Korean, Japanese, and Chinese studies as
well as on the languages themselves were consulted.
