Abstract
This project is a continuation of FW-16-D-002 MOD#3, but with a focus on new hunting and trapping opportunities. Since 2003 when the OMLP database was created, technology has evolved. The current database that is based upon the ESRI Parcel Data Model has become outdated, thereby making it difficult to add new parcels or to manage property edits. The current database must first be migrated to the Parcel Fabric (PF) data structure to be able to continue to maintain and add/update new information into the database into the future.
To ensure compliance with the funding used to acquire a site, IDNR must know what activities, including hunting and trapping, are ongoing and where. Site uses and areas change frequently, therefore annual updates of land use are needed. Updated land use information will support IDNR tracking and accurate reporting of hunting and trapping opportunities. Additionally, this project will support development of online hunter fact sheets, which eliminates the need for hard copy maps and provides the public with current and accessible information.
Previous phases of the OMLP project made great strides to map all IDNR sites. However, some were not added due to difficulty in securing necessary documents. Additionally, IDNR has purchased new sites and has acquired others (e.g., state historic sites) since OMLP began. In this project, the Mississippi River Fish and Wildlife Area, a large and important waterfowl hunting area will be researched, mapped, and added to OMLP. Additional new sites will be evaluated for the potential to offer public hunting and trapping opportunities and mapped if they offer legitimate potential.
