Abstract
This project examines five pieces by four historically significant Latin composers:
Liduino Pitombeira’s Fagocitose; Susana Antón’s Sonatina para fagot y piano; Francisco
Mignone’s 6a Valsa Brasileira and Mostero...(Quanto amei-a!) (Valsa doentia); and Miguel Del
Aguila’s Hexen (Witches). These pieces offer students and their teachers an opportunity to
develop bassoon fundamentals while learning about Latin culture in works outside of the western
European bassoon canon. Each piece’s treatment closes with performance preparation
suggestions, following a proposed practice acronym, TEAM (technique, ear training,
articulation, musicianship).
