Abstract
An open-source program written in modern Python to uniformly insert cohesive elements into a finite-element mesh is presented. The motivation for the development, of the program – known as pyhesive – as well as the methodology and algorithm of the program is discussed. Example usage of both its command-line interface as well as application programmer interface is demonstrated. Finally, results of using the program to insert cohesive elements into the entire mesh for several problems and element types are carefully studied to assess correctness. The thesis concludes with a qualitative comparison of a particular problem against between a Cohesive Zone FEM analysis enabled using the pyhesive method and an experimental measurement.
