- Abstract
- Large digital text collections present new and exciting opportunities for re-searchers. However, the ability to search on a fine-grained level is limited. Encoding texts with detailed metadata could allow researchers to perform complex and powerful searches. There are various categories of metadata that can be applied to texts to improve retrieval. From information about words (e.g., part-of-speech categories) to information about structure (e.g., if a section is a quote or direct speech) could be considered. However, encod-ing texts with such detailed metadata is a time-consuming exercise. If texts are to be encoded with various categories of metadata, a clear workflow that can guide encoders should be developed. This poster presents such a work-flow. The workflow consists of three parts and suggests where automation can be included to accelerate the encoding process.
