- Abstract
- Patient portals are an essential feature of healthcare within the United States and are often integrated into University Health Services (UHS). These online Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) serve as the main in-terface for patients to engage with their healthcare provider and their person-al health information. While these portals are pillars of university student healthcare, their role in supporting marginalized students (including BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and Disabled students) has not often been considered. However, members of these groups experience both disproportionate health disparities and educational inequities. Accordingly, this exploratory poster reviews ex-isting literature surrounding marginalized students’ experiences with patient portals and approaches to designing ICTs with marginalized users. We then outline gaps in this literature and propose a preliminary study design to ad-dress said gaps, with the hope of creating better practices for designing pa-tient portals to meet marginalized undergraduate students’ health needs.
