- Abstract
- This study investigated which cloud repository platforms researchers use for their collaborative research projects, reasons for choosing a certain cloud platform, and variables related to that choice. Data were collected by con-ducting an online survey with 525 researchers across disciplines including arts & humanities, sciences, and social sciences. Preliminary results showed that Google Drive is the most popular platform used by researchers. The main reasons for the choice included familiarity, functionality, and institu-tional choice. There were different primary reasons for choosing a specific platform. In addition, the choice of platforms differed based on researchers’ disciplines and whether the research project team members were from the same institution or not. This study contributes to our understanding of re-searchers’ use and the choice of cloud repository platforms for collaborative research projects. It also informs developers and designers of cloud reposito-ry platforms about considerations of researchers in different disciplines.
