Abstract
Since the emergence of the digital age, professionals have
utilized online platforms and apps to promote their occupational self-
branding. In this study, we analyzed academic scholars’ usage of university-
issued web-pages for self-presentation and examined gender-based differ-
ences in these websites. First, we found a gender asymmetry in favor of
males in online presence across all academic ranks. Second, in contrast
to previous research, we discovered that females included their published
research more often than their male peers. Additionally, our results repli-
cated females’ tendency to be more expressive and wordier in detailing
their research work and identified females’ tendency to use third-person
singular pronouns and males’ tendency to use first-person plural pro-
nouns
