Abstract
This report discusses the status of available carbon management technologies in Illinois; opportunities for using or storing captured carbon dioxide (CO2) underground; key challenges that could affect the development, demonstration, and deployment of CCUS technologies; stakeholder questions, concerns, and feedback; and options that policymakers should consider to help address these challenges. This report addresses all topics set forth by the statute requested by the Governor and Illinois General Assembly as outlined in Public Act 102-0341. Any issues beyond the scope of this single report may be addressed in forthcoming reports from the state. The report includes two parts: Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage in Illinois and Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage in Illinois: Law and Policy Supplement. The report was submitted to the General Assembly on December 16, 2022 and made available to the public in January 2023.
