Abstract
The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of global connections in our rapidly
changing world while simultaneously unveiling their fragility. At the community college level,
there is a growing body of literature evidencing that students at two-year institutions greatly
benefit from a globalized curriculum and international programming (Latiner and Valeau 2016,
Cohen and Kisker 2018). Aware of the growing importance of internationalization beyond high
school, we applied to participate in the International Studies Research Lab at the University of
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Our purpose was to study how to best build a plan to revitalize
our home institution’s efforts to globalize our campus. To fulfill this objective, we researched
best practices in Higher Education with an emphasis in two-year colleges. The following pages
describe our findings and detail our plan to revitalize international studies at our institution—
Parkland College.
