Archive of the website and blog for the Illini Gadget Garage. At the Gadget Garage, staff and volunteers worked with U of I students and members of the community to demystify and extend the useful life of electronic devices like phones, tablets, laptops, and media players. They used a “do-it-together” approach, helping device owners to identify problems, obtain necessary parts, and make repairs. ISTC founded the initiative in 2015 and hosted it through 2018. Coordination was transferred to the University of Illinois Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning in 2019. During the life of the project, the Gadget Garage diverted 905.2 lbs. of materials from the waste stream through repair and recycling.
