- Abstract
- This image features various jetting by bubble bursting at an oil-coated interface, which is a ubiquitous phenomenon in nature and industry. Bubble bursting is known as the primary contributor to sea spray aerosol by ejecting drops into the atmosphere, but the effect of organics on the jetting mechanism is less studied. Our research reveals that an oil layer could spread into the bottom of the bursting cavity and damp the capillary waves. As a result, bubble jetting in water could produce more drops that have a faster speed. The drops not only transfer organic materials to the atmosphere but also potentially remain airborne longer. The jetting in our research thus has a significant effect on the marine environment.
