Abstract
When navigating a vast and complex political environment, individuals look for signs that help them make sense of information. One such cue that guides people’s thoughts about a policy is whether an organization or politician they support endorses that specific policy. My research centers on understanding how an endorsement from a partisan group or public figure affects individuals’ certainty in their opinion of a policy. Like a marker on a rugged mountain trail, the endorsement can serve as a sign to guide individuals to a new political position or make them more certain about where they stand. In a confusing world full of dead ends and false trails, such markers help people have greater confidence in their ability to evaluate political issues.
