- Abstract
- It is my purpose as a Nicaraguan artist to decolonize the American Theatre. I’ve made it my life’s purpose to make sure my students were not being faced with the same discrimination I found. I cast brown and black folks in Tennessee Williams plays and it is one of my great passions to continue to find better representation in his work. I know diversity can help break elitist barriers and attract new audiences that will feel represented and valued. If theatre reveals the human condition, and we have so many different people in the world, with all walks of life, experiences, and perspectives, how could there only be one representation of it? The work of marginalized theatre makers is important. It is historical. And it done be erased.
