Abstract
Taken by app powered remote control this self-portrait displays a how the researchers personal experience relates to her topic of study. Her clothing represents the transfer process. She wears a hat from Georgia Military College, a hoodie and mask from the University of Illinois, and a vest from Virginia Tech. Standing in the middle of the crosswalk of Parkland Community College she invokes her transfer to the four-year institution. Her future is before her as she pauses to capture the moment. I am a first-generation college student and community college graduate turned higher education researcher. As both insider and outsider I seek to increase equity in education by studying the experiences of racially marginalized community college students.
