Bone is under constant remodeling; breaking itself down and building itself up again. This happens through a balanced interaction between osteoclasts (bone-resorbing cells) and osteoblasts (bone-forming cells). Osteoclasts are attracted to and breakdown minerals (as seen highlighted in orange) that are entrapped in a collagen based matrix. Osteoblast will then rebuild bone by depositing mineral.
