- Abstract
- This is my customized salad bowl that I had in New York City (NYC). I put my favorite ingredients (croutons, eggs, lettuce, sun-dried tomatoes, grapes, chickpeas, and cheese with balsamic dressing). Do all the ingredients look well harmonized? It seems a bit of a weird combination. Salad bowl theory is a metaphor for the way a multicultural society can integrate different cultures while maintaining their separate identities. It sounds ideal, but there is still a racial separation in the U.S. We would expect that every race should be treated equally, with their own identity. However, Asian Americans are underrepresented, and there have been prevalent anti-Asian hate crimes in the U.S. during the pandemic. This picture of the salad bowl gives us an important lesson today on how we can make all ingredients harmonized and taste better. Should we change the dressing to the ranch? Should we change some recipe ingredients to other vegetables? I would suggest giving a try this combination and taste of balsamic dressing. The more you taste, the more you would appreciate the taste of each ingredient. I would imagine the US society where we appreciate all races and ethnicities without anti-Asian hate crime.
