- Abstract
- Depicted, is a young girl developing her own website at a free training session. Women are largely underrepresented in science and technology courses and careers. This was not just purely research as we sought to understand if young girls knew about technology related studies and if they would willingly pursue such careers along with the reasons why (or why not), to understand the gender gap in science and technology. In these thought-provoking discussions, I learnt that they would often not choose them. Firstly because of how much the current male dominance intimidates them and because they felt that science and technology activities were complex and that they would not be successful in undertaking such studies and careers. The sessions are aimed to show them how easy and fun this can be, they just need to go for what they were passionate about and give it all they’ve got. It is amazing to see their smiles when they complete their projects and to aid in shattering this glass ceiling and helping young girls get a step closer to securing jobs in the growing field of science technology.
