Abstract
In 2017, Dr. Barbara Mahler of the USGS presented to this conference on coal tar pavement sealers. Since then research has continued and new regulations have been passed which affect millions of Americans including those who live in Illinois. Mr. Ennis will also discuss results of the most recent studies including the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory which used some of the world's most sophisticated analytical equipment, and state and local agencies who have identified coal-tar-based pavement sealcoat as a major source of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) contamination and a potential concern for human health and aquatic life.
