- Abstract
- Despite the emergence of technologies that enables easier access to information, there has been widespread misinformation and disinformation. As a result, many consumers of information have trouble understanding whether the information they find is true or not. Academics try not to use the term ‘fake news’ because it puts together into one category different kinds of harmful information disorders. However, for this project, the term ‘fake news’ is used because it is the term that is widely understood by more people. This project hopes to mitigate the proliferation of ‘fake news’. Specifically, it aims to design, develop, and implement a massive open online course (MOOC) on fighting ‘fake news’ through information literacy. The project is broken down into four phases: Project Planning; LMS Design and Development; Course Production; and Course Publishing. A beta test launch is the concluding activity of this project. The target beta testers of this MOOC project are undergraduate college students and working professionals in the Philippines.
