Abstract
Lava domes arc formed during molten lava eruption. Various predictions of flow growth
and eruption rate have been offered to minimize lava damage. In this paper. flowing
lava is modeled as a Bingham fluid . A continuum mechanics model is presented; both
isothermal and temperature-dependent cases arc considered. Height profile predications
of domes from this mathematical model arc compared with laboratory results using
different slurries. Excellent agreement is found for the isothermal case and qualitative
agreement is found for the temperature-dependent case.
