Abstract
The investigation reported was undertaken with the following purposes: (a) To present, for various concrete and mortar specimens under sustained compression while drying at various environmental humidities, the complete pictures of the variation of deformation with time, including the instantaneous response, creep, shrinkage, as well as recovery behavior. (b) To utilize the relationship established in the basis of short time test data in order to predict the long time creep and compare the latter with the observed values. (c) To propose a possible rheological model similating the recovery response of various concretes which had been under load thereby to obtain a better relationship between the mechanical elements of the model and the physical elements of the concrete (d) To study the effect of temperature variations on the basic creep of mortars (e) To study the effect of type of aggregates on free drying shrinkage, and on the moisture exchange behavior and moisture distribution in the interior of concrete specimens thereby to supplement the experimental findings previously reported (2). (f) To suggest directions in which further studies might be made with a view toward achieving a better understanding of the creep of concrete under a wider range of conditions.
