Abstract
Twenty seven new wheels, supplied by the Chicago Plant of the Griffen Wheel Company, were subjected to drag and stop tests. The results of the stop tests give some measure of the resistance of the wheels to thermal cracking. The drag tests were used to measure the build up of strain in the wheel and to induce residual stresses in the wheel that are somewhat similar to the stresses that might be built up in service.
