Abstract
This report contains an analysis of a four degree of freedom model launching system. It is similar to the analysis of TAM Report No. 139, University of Illinois, in that the launcher consists of the same undercarriage and launching beam. The analysis differs; however, in two ways. First, it is assumed that the undercarriage does not move, and secondly, the missile is constrained to rotate through an angle which is proportional to the distance the rocket is constrained to rotate through an angle. Because of the tremendous problems involved in scaling these analyses for the Illiac (a digital computer), it was found necessary to treat this work as a separate problem rather than a special case of TAM Report No. 139. Numerical results are presented for float loads and pitch velocities of the structure for varying helix angles. Additionally an appendix is included in which the shoe loads on a two rail helical rail system are considered.
