Abstract
A study of the fatigue properties of niobium rod and sheet was carried out at room temperature. Tests were made on both cold worked material and material heat treated so as to produce different grain sizes. The results of these tests show than in the alloys under consideration varying the grain size and amount of cold work has very little effect on the room temperature fatigue properties. A study was also made of the tensile properties of niobium as a function of temperature from room temperature to 1750°F. A temperature inversion in the tensile properties was found at 1000°F and there was indications of another near 1750°F. These effects are believed to be caused by strain aging.
