Abstracted from an article by Massoud T. Simnard of General Dynamics Corp., San Diego, California, published in Applied Radiation and Isotopes, Vol. I, No. 3, November 1956, pages 145-171. The writer was directed by the AREA-AISI Joint Concrete Committee to survey the literature on the use of nuclear irradiation and radioisotopes as it might be applied to research on railroad rails especially regarding the shelly rail problem.
