Abstract
This report investigates the mechanical behavior of a glass fiber reinforced composite subjected to temperature change. Primary emphasis is given to the topics of thermal stress, thermal expansion and contraction under an applied constant stress, and the phenomenon of Young's modulus being a function of temperature. Operationally simple constitutive equations and a viscoelastic model are developed for this material and experimentally verified. Elastic and viscoelastic solutions for the problem of thermal
stress as well as thermal expansion and contraction under an applied constant stress are compared and contrasted.
