Abstract
A method of predicting the fatigue crack initiation life of notched metal components subjected to complex load his tories is presented, and is based on the local stress-strain approach. Application is made to a large body of component fatigue data. Algorithms are developed for computer implementation to enable rapid analysis. Emphasis is placed on simplified access to the algorithms and associated computer programs. Inputs to the procedure are cyclic stress strain and fatigue resistance material properties, and a cyclic applied load-notch strain curve. The influences of overstrain and mean stress are analyzed.
