From the Introduction: Box sections are often used in heavy stiff structures and in the frames of machinery such as earth-moving and mining equipment. The current trend is to use higher strength steels for the fabrication of such boxes. Because some of these steels are much less tolerant of localized yielding and hence are more susceptable to fracture failure, it is necessary to make a more careful and complete analysis of the stresses in boxes made of medium to high strength steels.
