Abstract
The theoretical stress developed in four different design railway car wheels by a fifty horsepower thermal load is presented. The stresses developed were determined by the use of an elastic finite element analysis and the results are shown to be influenced by the geometric design of the wheel. Theoretical boundary conditions used for the particular study and the need for further analysis with different boundary conditions are discussed.
