"The sixth lecture of the series on ""Some Thermodynamic Aspects of the Flow of Solids"" summarized in this report is concerned with the propagation of longitudinal waves in a cylindrical specimen of finite length of a visco-elastic material. An analogous equation to the wave equation of an elastic solid can be formulated for a visco-elastic solid, but the occurring elastic modulii are complex functions of the applied frequency. A solution is here derived for the wave propagation in a finite cylinder of the visco-elastic materials in terms of these modulii, the applied frequency and wave velocities within the solid."
