Abstract
The fifth lecture of the series on “Some Thermodynamic Aspects of the Flow of Solids” summarized in this report deals with the basic concepts on the non-equilibrium thermodynamics of continuous media. The “local” entropy production is a closed system due to the irreversible processes occurring within it, discussed first. Then the dissipation function of the system is derived in terms of this entropy production.
