Abstract
Preventable medical error is the third leading cause of death in the US, taking just over 22,000 lives a year. To minimize preventable medical errors, healthcare practitioners have adopted the use of clinical decision support systems (CDSS) into their workflow in the past decades. However, there are still many existing challenges for developing a successful CDSS. We propose an XState-React-Redux framework for the design and development of clinical guidance systems. We believe that the proposed framework provides an approach for building lightweight, safety-prone, physician-friendly, configurable, extendable, and portable clinical guidance systems that could effectively improve adherence to clinical best practice and ensure the translation of clinical guidelines to high-quality clinical practice.
