Abstract

Zoom has taken over my research. Everything is Zoom. I hate Zoom but I love Zoom, without it I could not finish my dissertation. My preliminary meeting was exactly a week before the announcement that everything having to do with research would have to be done remotely. Personally, this meant no face to face interviews (I had plan 10) and no site visits (I had schedule 4). I was devastated at first but had to put myself together because after all, the dissertation must go on! I salvaged what I could of my data collection and methods and added the challenge to learn a new technology. With little time to waste I began scheduling meetings, conducting & recording interviews and going over transcripts from home. This technology is simple and amazing once you learn to appreciate it. The mute button should receive an award for “Icon of the Year” and the phrase “Please unmute yourself” could very well be my dissertation title. Home is familiar and relaxed; my companion is simply done with this home/work thing…I just keep my eyes on the prize and wholeheartedly thank Zoom and my broadband connection!
