Abstract
This sculpture is a part of a grant received from the Student Sustainability
Committee (SSC) and is meant to raise awareness of the magnitude of waste generated on campus and in the US, as well as options for waste reduction and responsible disposal. The bottles and caps required for this sculpture were collected from UI Housing Food Stores, the Waste Transfer Station, and ISTC. Both 20 oz. and 16.9 oz. bottles were washed, and sanitized using a bleach solution before incorporating
them into the sculpture. This skeleton is covered with panels of plastic bottles made by inserting the bottles into sections of commercially available plastic mesh with 1” square spacing.
