Abstract
This thesis evaluates the Quality Matters rubric standards for improving online drawing courses. Findings include general effectiveness, positive perceptions from faculty, and suggestions for improvement for the Quality Matters standards for designing studio art courses. This study contributes to gaps in the literature about course design techniques for online studio art courses and content specific investigations of the Quality Matters standards. The methods include a case study with a review of student artwork and a questionnaire of key faculty informants. Additionally, this study codes the data for the strengths and weaknesses of Quality Matters. From the coding, a synthesis of the themes that emerged is presented in the section on findings. The salient themes that arose related to the examination are enhanced student experience, emphasis on student learning, quality of student artwork, issues of the design phase, suggestions for the QM standards, faculty perceptions, and technology issues. The concluding chapter answers the main question, 'How effective are the Quality Matters standards for online studio art course design?' offering suggestions for further study and presenting ideas for improvement to the Quality Matters standards.
