Abstract

This project aims to assess the current ecological conditions of Champaign County and how they have been altered over time. Understanding the current conditions and how they came to be is a valuable aid when setting priorities for the future. This project will look at land cover change, existing ecological systems, wildlife, conservation and restoration efforts, landscape diversity, landscape resilience, landscape connectivity, and urban heat. A lot of research has been done on these subjects, but the information can be dispersed across various organizations and scales which can make it difficult to put into perspective for a specific region. This project will use regional, state, and local data to provide an ecological framework for Champaign County.
