Abstract
Developing flow in a wavy passage is analyzed using an accurate numerical scheme to
solve the unsteady flow equations. Calculations are presented for a channel consisting of 14
waves. Systematic time-dependent simulations have been performed for Reynolds numbers (Re)
ranging from 300 to 700. It is observed that the flow is steady in part of the channel and unsteady
in the rest of the channel. As the Reynolds number is progressively increased, the unsteadiness is
onset at a much earlier location, accompanied by increased overall heat transfer and friction
coefficients.
