Abstract
Combustion Engineering (C-E) has a need for its capabilities to unite a widely decentralized and highly diverse management organization. And it has a desire to provide its management with the best tools possible for their activities. The implementation of the Office of the Future at C-E began with a pilot installation of electronic mail. Electronic mail is the backbone of the Office of the Future. It is the thread that will ultimately link all the other parts and was the logical place to begin our implementation. The pilot project was designed and programmed in 1977 and was operational from January 1 to June 30, 1978.
