- Abstract
- Aislinn Gauchay - Assistant Director of Great Lakes & Sustainability in the Daniel P. Haerther Center for Conservation and Research at John G. Shedd Aquarium. As an aquarium, Shedd cares about water. Both the health of our 32,000 animals and operations as a world class cultural institution depend upon water and it is a key focus area for the conservation and sustainability initiatives critical to Shedd's mission. With 2 million guests annually, over 20,000 member households, annual media impressions in the tens of millions, and a professional community that extends overseas, Shedd has utilized its powerful, trusted voice to inspire and instruct on water conservation efforts. Shedd's achievements in water conservation have established the aquarium as a sustainability thought-leader and trendsetter within the zoo, aquarium, and museum community in Chicagoland and beyond. In this webinar, Gauchay discussed Shedd's water stewardship and conservation initiatives at Shedd and beyond. From active stewardship of the Great Lakes through community action to restore local ecosystems, to water conservation initiates resulting in a 49% reduction in new water use onsite, to culinary conservation through sustainable seafood, learn how Shedd walks the talk, creatively conserving water resources and supporting healthy waters worldwide.
