- Abstract
- "Nate Keener - Director of Sustainability at Lewis and Clark Community College. In 2007, Lewis and Clark Community College (L&C) signed the American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment (ACUPCC). In 2009, L&C completed a carbon footprint study and created their Climate Action Plan (CAP). L&C's CAP is a comprehensive in laying the foundation for all the work coming out of the Office of Sustainability. It sets ""Carbon Neutrality by 2058"" as a goal and establishes the Green Oversight Committee to oversee progress toward this goal. It focuses on six broad categories of action: Energy Conservation Measures; Renewable Energy Sources; Waste Reduction; Commuting/Campus Fleet; Policy/Behavior Change; Education/Outreach/Research. In the last several years, the college has been recognized by state and national partners for their efforts, receiving the Governor's Sustainability Award in 2011 and 2013, the Governor's Sustainability Compact Gold Level, and The US Water Prize in 2011. They have seen continued progress toward their sustainability goals, achieving reductions in greenhouse gases every year since formalizing their commitment. This presentation provided a snapshot of successful projects undertaken by the college, identified key stakeholders that motivated the campus toward change, and discussed challenges and opportunities that may confront other colleges that wish to set similar goals."
