- Abstract
- In this project, I conducted a traffic accident analysis and built a vehicle crash prediction model. The results of this study can help reduce accident rates by informing transportation managers to prepare countermeasures in advance and notifying drivers of potential traffic accidents ahead of their trips. I was invited to make a poster presentation during the Transportation Research Board annual meeting. As a master student, it was the first time that I attend such a prestigious academic conference. What's more, for me, the meaning of this research is not just a line on the resume. It makes me know what I want to do in the future. I want to be a transportation engineer and work for public transportation safety. I want to devote myself to protecting people's lives and properties by providing them a safe travel environment. I want to eliminate the dangerous factors in our current transportation system and help prevent future accidents. This project also helps me get an internship opportunity. I met an employee from the Regional Planning Commission during a conference in October 2019. She recognized the value of my research work and provided me an opportunity to work for our community.
